Officers were able to deescalate the situation.

When: December 21st, 2020

Where: Talat Bang Khen subdistrict, Lak Si district, Bangkok

Perpetrators: Treasury Department

Victims: Ms. Chuleeporn

What: A tense scene played out in the Lak Si district of Bangkok on December 21st, 2020. A woman identified as Ms. Chuleeporn held a 1 meter long sword to her throat while holding a sign that detailed her story.

She claimed that the Treasury Department seized 6 rai of ancestral land on Soi Ngam Wong Wan 59 in Bangkok with no compensation. The land was handed over to the Royal Irrigation Department. The plan for the land was to build houses to rent.

My take: I spoke to a Thai friend about this story. They said that the woman will have to fight hard to get the land back or for compensation.

It’s a bold action that the woman took, but hopefully it brings attention to her cause and there’s a positive end result.

We’ll update the story if reports come in.
