There have been several apps that have been brought up when talking about the Shopping Mall app scam case. One of the others that recently went down was the Tesco app, which functioned with a similar business model as the Shopping Mall app.
Another app that hasn’t been mentioned much in the press is Credit Global. Right now it’s going through the same issues that Shopping Mall app went through: users are unable to withdraw money after depositing over the past months.
According to a report by one Facebook user, Mr. Surasak Pechsut, the Credit Global app was promoted by the same people that were hawking Shopping Mall.
I’m keeping a close eye on other apps that are popping up in lieu of Shopping Mall going down. There are many others out there now that are jockeying to take the place of Shopping Mall. The market is still very active in promoting these apps and people keep falling for them.
Another app that I am looking at is Dodo Global. Yes, they are naming the app after an extinct bird.
Across various social media sites in Thai, both on Facebook and Pantip, users have discussed that Chinese nationals promote all of the apps mentioned in this article.
In regards to the Shopping Mall app case, there haven’t been any other arrests as far as I’m aware. I’m keeping close tabs on the police pages that release reports on arrest activity related to cyber crime. I’ve also received leads from True Crime Thailand readers about the case that I might include in a broader in-depth report on the situation. Stay tuned for more.
