There’s no indication why the Chilean was attacked.
In the wee morning hours of February 25th, 2021, at 2AM, a Chilean national by the name of Mr. Salvatore Andres Castromedina, 24 years old, was attacked by a motorcycle taxi driver in the Walking Street area of Pattaya in Chonburi province.
The victim said that he come out of a bar that had recently closed but wanted to continue drinking at Soi Buakhao. He tried to hire a motorcycle taxi but the beating took place before he could get to his next drinking destination. Another motorcycle taxi took him to the police station to file a report before taking him to the hospital.
Investigators went to the scene of the crime and found traces of blood on the ground. They examined CCTV footage and saw the motorcycle taxi drive with a vest on sitting near the victim. He then got up and slapped Mr. Castromedina, then proceeded to kick him in the face many times. Mr. Castromedina did not fight back in the video.
The incident is described in the report as “seriously destroying the image of Pattaya tourism” despite recent efforts to bring tourists back.
There’s no indication why the fight started in the several reports I’ve read so far.
Video of the incident, uncensored and there is blood (attack starts at 2:46 into the video):

My take: This is sure to get passed around today and get comments from everybody even slightly associated with Thailand or Pattaya.
Look, the attack was brutal and it appears to be completely unnecessary. The young Chilean could have died with kicks to the face like that. You simply don’t kick people in the face unless you intend to kill them.
At the end of the day this story needs an explanation in terms of why it happened before I make further comment, but it doesn’t look good for the motorcycle taxi driver from where I stand.
Edit: This piece says the motive was because the Chilean “talked too much” and the motorbike taxi driver couldn’t understand what he was saying. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/crimecourtscalamity/2021/02/25/chilean-man-says-motosai-attacks-him-unprovoked-in-pattaya/
