Mother and Daughter Shot Dead on Rubber Plantation in Narathiwat; 1 Million Baht Stolen from Scene

Police have apprehended a suspect from the same village.

When: January 17th, 2021

Where: Si Sakhon district, Narathiwat province

Perpetrator: Unnamed gunman

Victim: Ms. Ammenok, 42; Ms. Parisa, 23

What: On January 17th, 2021, a mother and daughter were found shot dead on a rubber plantation in the Si Sakhon district of Narathiwat province. The victims, Ms. Ammenok, 42, and Ms. Parisa, 23, were carrying 1 million baht cash on their way to buy gold from villagers.

Police said that Ms. Ammenok had a business where she bought gold from villagers and melted it down for resale. She was on her way to buy gold from villagers when the mother and daughter were gunned down.

According to the report, the mother and daughter were likely shot the day before on January 16th and then discovered by villagers on January 17th. It’s also likely that whoever shot the two knew they were carrying the 1 million baht, and that was the motivation for the murder.

Police raided a man’s house in the same village as where the deceased lived and detained him on suspicion of being the gunman.

My take: Life can be incredibly cheap. Carting around that kind of cash anywhere and letting people know is never a good idea.

I don’t mean to blame the victims, as it could have been anybody, even family or close friends involved. If there are updates on this story, I will report them as always.
