She’d been missing for two days.

When: December 24th, 2020
Where: Ban San Bo Yen cemetary, Pong Thung subdistrict, Doi Tao district, Chiang Mai province
Perpetrators: Unknown
Victims: Ms. Arkorn Somkham, 59
What: Police received a report of a body found stuffed in a 200 liter barrel in the crematorium at the Ban San Boy Yen cemetery in Doi Tao district on December 24th, 2020. The body was examined and identified as Ms. Arkorn Somkham, 59, who was missing for two days since December 22nd. They also found a bag, wallet, cell phone, and 200 baht with the body.
Ms. Arkorn is said to have normally stayed home alone. She disappeared on December 22nd. Neighbors thought she might have been visting relatives, but the relatives hadn’t seen her either.
A villager passed the crematorium and saw the 200 liter barrel placed on the crematorium, as if being prepared for the cremation rite. He inspected the barrel and found the body inside. That’s when he called police. It’s believed on preliminary investigation that she’d been dead for 1 day. A full autopsy will be carried out. Investigators are on the case.

My take: This is a grisly find on Christmas Eve, even if it’s not the holiday here in Thailand as it is back home. I know that Thailand’s well covered with CCTV cameras.
I’d imagine that one of those cameras caught enough of the act, either the murder or the stuffing of Ms. Arkorn into the barrel and placing her at the crematorium, to lead to the culprit. We’ll update readers when more news comes in.
