What: On January 2nd, 2021, police in Kalasin received a report of a fight that broke out in Lao Phu Phan village in the Somdej district of Kalasin province. Officials found Mr. Prinya Boriboon, 24, dead from stab wounds with blood flooding his lungs.
The group gathered for a Naga ordination ceremony, a Theravada Buddhist tradition. A fight broke out with local teenagers and “foreign teenagers” who were participating in the event. Local residents took video footage of the fight, which captured the stabbing on film.
Mr. Pongsak was brought to a Kalasin jail to be detained. The murder weapon is described as a 1 foot long knife. He turned himself in after learning Mr. Prinya had died. He apologized to the relatives of the deceased.

My take: It’s unclear why the fight broke out at the ordination ceremony and who the “foreign teenagers” were. But it’s a sad turn of events nonetheless. RIP to the young Mr. Prinya.
