When: December 5th, 2020
Where: Udon Thani city
Perpetrators: “Mr. Jack”, alias for murderer according to reports
Victims: Ms. Chalada Phinkham, 22, deceased; 16 year old girl, unnamed, deceased; 5 others injured
What: A bloody scene unfolded on the streets of Udon Thani on Saturday. A crazed man on a motorbike pulled up to a red light and jabbed a knife into the neck of two girls waiting for the light to turn. The victims were Ms. Phinkham, 22, and an unnamed 13 year old girl. The knife attack was caught on CCTV. The killer stabbed the girls in a very precise and almost surgical way. The video shows the girls walking away, but it’s reported that they both died later from their injuries at an Udon Thani hospital. The killer also stabbed and injured 5 others.
It’s reported that Mr. Jack, an alias according to the reports, worked as a pig butcher. He was skilled in cutting pig necks at his job. People who know the killer said that he had problems with his girlfriend, along with amphetamines and alcohol. On the day of the stabbings, he cruised around Udon Thani looking for his girlfriend. That’s when he saw the young woman at the red light, who he thought was his girlfriend. Then he attacked the misidentified girl. Police caught up with Mr. Jack, who was still in a frenzy. They set up a blockade and apprehended the suspect the same day.

My take: The fact that Mr. Jack was a pig butcher stands out in my mind. The skill and ease at which he used the knife is very telling to that fact. Going through the motions, day in and day out, butchering pigs builds up muscle memory and skill. You learn exactly where to cut to make it count. That’s not to say every butcher turns into a crazed knife killer. The chemicals and demons that haunted this man got the best of him.
