Fire Sinks Fishing Boat Off Coast of Satun; Crew of 8 Rescued to Safety

The crew consisted of Thai and Myanmar nationals.

On March 1st, 2021, a Coastal Operation Unit (N.O.R. 491) received a report from a local fisherman that at about 3PM a fishing boat was on fire and sank to the bottom of the sea off the coast of Satun province, about 7 miles north of Koh Adang.

The fishing boat, identifed as Phanom Sin Nava 10, left from Trang. The crew consisted of 3 Thai and 5 Myanmar nationals. They radioed for help to a nearby fishing boat, Manachai 3, for assistance. A fishing boat was sent out to pick up the crew and bring them to shore.

The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time. The Navy has ordered the Naval Air and Coast Guard Operation 491 (N.O.R.A.K. 491) to investigate. They want to check for any oil leaks on the ship which may have impacted the local marine environment as well.

Special Note about Facebook

My personal profile on Facebook was completely nuked — BOOM, just deleted with no warning. This isn’t just a Facebook jail sentence. I was completely banned from the platform.

12+ years of connections, networking, content, the whole works is just poof gone.

So look, if you came to this page from Facebook, and you’d like to continue to read True Crime Thailand content in the event that my group and page are taken off the platform (it’s inevitable), then I only ask that you sign up to my newsletter.

I do not spam. I only use it to send out a weekly digest of the best crime news in Thailand, along with original reports that I write — about once a week, too.
