Where: Wang Thonglang district, Bangkok

Victim: Mr. Pharuek, alias Ice, 27, deceased; Ms. Pridaporn, alias Kung Phokaew, 30, deceased; Ms. Suwannee, alias Fai, 27, coma

What: Late in the evening on January 13th, 2021, medics and police were called to a condo in the Wang Thonglang district of Bangkok after the mother of one of the victims called to report discovering the bodies.

After receiving the call, police and medics rushed to the condo. They found Ms. Pridaporn and Mr. Pharuek lying side by side, both deceased. Ms. Suwannee was lying on her back, still breathing, with a blanket covering her body. She was rushed to the hospital.

According to the landlord, Mr. Pharuek and Ms. Suwannee are husband and wife and have three children together. She wasn’t aware of any drug use of theirs in the past. She did not know the other woman who died at the scene.

The deceased Ms. Pridaporn’s friends said she knew somebody brought the K-powder drug, which is causing havoc and overdose deaths across Bangkok, for her to take. An unidentified woman took the drugs from the room and fled the scene before officers arrived.

My take: These stories of overdose deaths might seem sensational. But let’s hope that at least one person reads them and thinks twice about what they’re taking so that we can prevent further deaths until we know what is going on conclusively with this drug.
