The suspect has hit multiple shops in Udon Thani.

When: December 28th, 2020

Where: Udon Thani city

Perpetrators: Unnamed man, 30-40 years of age

Victims: Ms. Aree, 65, shopkeeper

What: At 1PM on December 28th, 2020, Udon Thani police received a report that an unidentified man, aged 30-40, used a counterfeit 1,000 baht bank note to buy items at Granny Red’s Grocery Market (ขายของชำยายแดง) on Soi Photwararam in Udon Thani city.

CCTV cameras in the store recorded the counterfeiter buying the goods. Ms. Aree, 65, owns the shop where the 1,000 baht bank note was passed. She reported that the man bought cigarettes at the shop and got 940 baht in change in return. He’s described as being thin, dark skinned, between 160-165 cm tall, wearing long jeans, a black rim hat and a face mask.

Ms. Aree noticed the note looked strange. She dipped it in water and red ink seeped out from the counterfeit note. The counterfeiter quickly fled the scene at this point.

According to reports, a grocery store next door was also scammed with a 1,000 baht note by the same man buying cigarettes. But that time the shopkeeper saw that it was a bad bill and did not issue the man change.

Police are investigating the matter and the counterfeit notes. They said that the man is targeting shops with elderly owners and that are busy with customers, making it difficult for the shop to check the notes.
