The maverick is nicknamed the “tub tycoon.”

When: December 12th, 2020
Where: Bangkok
What: Mr. Chuwit Kamolvisit, the maverick massage parlor and soapy mogul, who has been a long time outspoken advocate against police corruption, made a Facebook post about the recent raid on Insanity Club in Bangkok.
He told his Facebook followers that he’d share some of his insider info on the atmosphere and the way things are done in the nightlife industry.
His post detailed the operations of a venue he used to own. He refers himself as the “Godfather of Khlong Toei”, an infamous district in Bangkok. The venue had a booth set up to sell drugs: ice, weed, and ketamine. If you wanted to partake, all you’d have to do is say the word, and the Godfather would send a waiter to the table and make it happen.
The most exclusive venues, like เหล่าเต๊ง (Lao Teng), would only admit VIP guests – you had to be a member, and the regulars had to know you by name. Then the real fun would begin: a playground of drugs and gambling that would see 7 digit baht wagers. Chuwit says this is where the real fun is.
He goes on to describe ลอดลายมังกร, The Dragon King, an infamous story about a Chinese immigrant to Thailand who hustled to become a powerful billionaire. The story was a novel and has been dramatized on TV and film in Thailand.
Chuwit later says in the post that he never disappoints with the insider knowledge he brings to his followers. He says that the raid on Insanity Club on Sukhumvit Soi 11 is near the same place where he exposed a corrupt cop who’s doing time in jail.

My take: Chuwit is a fascinating character in the history of Thai politics, business, and the fight against corruption. He brings an insider’s look at corruption as he used to deal with dirty cops on the daily in the course of his business. We will update our audience with more reports as they come in, from Chuwit and elsewhere, about the raid on Insanity Club.
