What: Pattaya police were notified about a robbery at gold shop located in the Lotus Plus Mall Amata Nakorn. The CCTV footage shows a man about 40 years old approach the shop to buy jewelry. He asked the clerk to look at two heavy 5 baht (a baht of gold is 15.244 grams) bracelets. He then asked for a two 10 baht gold necklaces, which totaled 30 baht in hand – or about 457.32 grams in gold; valued in the Thai market at 27,625 Thai baht per baht of gold; estimated value of 828,750 Thai baht.
He then pulled out his firearm and threatened the clerks and shoppers in the area. He was able to flee the mall without any resistance.
He’s described as being about 180cm tall, wearing a black t-shirt. The robber threatened others with the gun while fleeing the scene.

My take: A gutsy move. It sadly reminds us of the unfortunate gold store robbery earlier this year where several died, including a young child, in Lopburi. We’re just glad that nobody got hurt this time. My prediction is that this guy will get caught and the gold will be recovered.
