The issue of racial violence between blacks and Asians has been ongoing for some time.
When: January 31st, 2021
Where: San Francisco, California
Perpetrators: Antoine Watson, 19
Victims: Vicha Ratanapakdee, 84
What: An 84 year old elderly Thai man was brutally attacked in the Bay Area, California on January 31st, 2021.
He died from his injuries.
Here’s an original video of the attack:
You may have read about this story in the Bangkok Post, the Thaiger, and Coconuts.
Sadly, but predictably, none of those mainstream English language outlets that cover news in Thailand have addressed the real issue: that this was a racially motivated attack.
The culprit? A young black man.
This is a very sensitive issue for many people who want to deny this kind of violence. Noting the race of the culprit is nearly forbidden in the USA due to the politically correct environment that exists.
Here is an activist talking about this violence:
It’s an interesting fact that even Coconuts ran the story talking about racial violence but failed to mention the race of the perpetrator.
That speaks volumes in itself.
They simply say that “The attack has drawn significant attention in San Francisco’s Asian-American community as an example of the hate-fueled violence which has surged since the pandemic began last year, fanned by those pinning blame on China.” (Coconuts Source)
But they fail to mention that this has been an ongoing issue even before COVID19.
This is relevant to Thailand as the Thai press has now picked up the story as well.
