All the risk for .006% of the reward.
When: November 28th, 2020
Perpetrators: Mr. Piyaphong Disthabamrung, 36; Ms. Napaporn Lumphong, 20
Victims: Yaba heads
What: The suspicions of an observant officer at the army checkpoint in Mae Chan, Chiang Rai led to the seizure of 60 kilos of ice destined for Bangkok. The drugs have an estimated black market value of 40 million baht.
The two smugglers, Mr. Disthabamrung and Ms. Lumphong, were paid 250,000 baht to transport the meth from Mae Sai to Bangkok. Thai police and army were involved with the seizure. Sadly, the couple were arrested with their 5 year old son in the truck.

My take: The work is simple. You take a package and drive it 900 kilometers from Mae Sai to Bangkok. You get paid 250,000 baht upon successful delivery. Sounds like a great way to make a quick baht. If you don’t get caught, that is. The fact is these two smugglers put all the skin in the game for a pay out that works out to be .006% of the total net value of the product. Not a good deal, from my standpoint.
These two are going away for a long time. I wonder what happens to the kid…
