543: The Lucky Numbers from Victim’s License Plate in Udon Thani Knife Massacre

Former 90 million baht lotto winner also visits family to make donation.

Jae Aw, lotto winner, visits with relatives of the deceased.

When: December 7th, 2020

Where: Udon Thani city

Perpetrators: Mr. Ithipon Imphueng, nickname Jack, 31

Victims: Ms. Chalada Phinkham, 22, deceased; Ms. Anchaya Boonyingyuan, 16, deceased; 6 others injured

What: Two more updates in the bloody slashing that took place on Saturday December 5th, 2020 in Udon Thani. We now know license plate numbers of the motorbike Ms. Phinkham drove the day she was murdered. The lucky numbers? 543. These are now being snatched up on tickets in the Thai lottery.

And there’s still another lotto connection yet. Jae Aw, winner of a 90 million baht jackpot back in 2018, visited the mourning relatives of the murdered girls in Udon Thani. She donated 30,000 baht to help the family, gave books to relieve their stress, and donated 50,000 baht to help schools in Udon Thani in the deceased’s memory.

It was an emotional event when Jae Aw met with family at the funeral. She told the mother of the deceased that she came to make merit with her and give money to make merit for the deceased as well.

The mother thanked Jae Aw for coming. Other relatives asked for a photo with Jae Aw, famous for her big lotto jackpot two years ago.

My take: It wouldn’t be a tragedy in Thailand without the lottery connection. We lucked out this time though with a double lotto connection with the entrance of Jae Aw into the story. Whatever it takes to find peace and solace, I guess. Anyway, stories like this are why I do what I do – I’m fascinated by the cultural differences between west and east.
