50 Million Baht in Assets, 1400 Kilos of Ice Seized after “Bad Brothers Network” Taken Down in Nakhon Phanom

The drug bust includes 1,400 kilos of ice and 1,000 kilos of marijuana.

When: December 21st, 2020

Where: Lao Phatthana subdistrict, Na Wa district, Nakhon Phanom province

Perpetrators: Mr. Phadet Prasert; Mr. Padung Prasert Song Phi Nong

Victims: Ice-heads throughout Thailand

What: One of the leaders of a large Nakhon Phanom drug syndicate, named as the Bad Brothers Network, has been arrested. The two leaders are actual brothers, named as Mr. Phadet Prasert and Mr. Padung Prasert Song Phi Nong.

The two brothers are accused of drug trafficking throughout the border regions of Isaan. Authorities found 1,400 kilograms of ice and over 1,000 kilograms of marijuana. Mr. Padung was transporting the drugs into Thailand.

Mr. Phadet was arrested at his home in Maha Sarakham province. An associate of the bad Brothers Network, Panya Ngern Charlie, was arrested at a polling place in Nakhon Phanom. He is known to have run the drugs with his vehicle.

Mr. Padung, the second brother, is being pursued by authorities. He’s believed to have fled Thailand, perhaps to Laos by illegally crossing the border.

The Bad Brothers Network procured the narcotics from Laos and smuggled them into Nakhon Phanom, Bueng Kan, and Mukdahan, before sending them to central and southern regions of the country.

The assets seized include land with rubber plantations, pig farms, and several vehicles, with a value of over 50 million baht. It’s believed the brothers have other assets that have yet to be discovered.

My take: Based on calculations that have been done in the recent past of the street value of ice in Thailand, the seizure of ice alone is valued at roughly 1 billion baht.

The Laos border with Isaan is an overlooked source of narcotics being smuggled into Thailand, as the focus is often on the northern areas of the Golden Triangle where Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand’s borders meet.

We will update this story as more reports come in, especially if the 2nd brother is caught.
