What: At 11AM on January 5th, 2021, narcotics officers in Rayong announced the arrest of a major drug trafficking network known as the Rayong Cook Network. This was in conjunction with busts in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. They seized 7,224,000 yaba tabs, 5 kilos of heroin, and assets worth about 35 million baht.
The main culprit, Mr. Sorakrit, alias Cook Son Siri or “Rayong Cook”, 34 was taken down with 7 others. Officers also seized ketamine, ecstasy, an M16, 3.8 million baht in cash, 7 cars, 4 motorcycles, a 9mm, lots of gold, and other items worth 35 million baht.
This is described as one of the major drug networks in the eastern region of Thailand. At least three members of the network fled, identified as Mr. Akadet, Mr. Thanwa, and Mr. Sorakritthan.
The report describes a second case from the Muser drug network in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. There were 4 million tabs seized in Chiang Rai and a Lisu drug network was busted in Chiang Mai with 3 million yaba tabs.
This operation was done in conjunction with covid surveillance and more checkpoints.

My take: The other day I raised the question of how many busts and other criminal activity would be found out due to the increase in covid checkpoints. Now we know. Expect more difficulties with drug runners and other criminals as covid checkpoints increase.
