The two had fought for a long time.
When: December 29th, 2020
Where: Bo Ra subdistrict, Pho Thong district, Ang Thong province
Perpetrators: Mr. Yongyut Kaew Phlai Chumpon, 20
Victims: Mr. Somfai Saengkasem, 53
What: At 10PM on December 29th, 2020, police in Ang Thong were informed of a death by stabbing. Investigators arrived at the scene and found the body of Mr. Somfai, 53, in front of the family home in the middle of the street. He had stab wounds in the right chest and three in the back.
The perpetrator, Mr. Yongyut, 20, the victim’s nephew, sat by the house. There were blood tracks between the body and Mr. Yongyut. About 15 meters away from the body of the deceased was a knife, a hammer, and a steel pipe.
Mr. Yongyut was brought to the police station for questioning. He confessed that he was the one who stabbed his uncle. He said they used to be neighbors and fight often. The previous night, on December 28th, Mr. Yongyut said he uncle got drunk and said he couldn’t sleep. He said that his uncle walks through the house regularly and this caused conflict between the two.
Mr. Yongyut said he sat with a knife and was fashioning bamboo to make a mousetrap. The uncle was holding a steel pipe in the door way of the family home and the two challenged each other. Mr. Yongyut’s mother tried to calm the situation but was unsuccessful. Mr. Somfai hit his nephew with the steel pipe. After, Mr. Yongyut stabbed his uncle many times with the knife before his uncle ran away and collapsed and died in the road.
Investigators are interviewing witnesses and family to find more info on the motive.

My take: The motive as stated in the report is that the nephew was annoyed by his uncle’s behavior – walking through the house drunk, keeping him up at night, making the dogs bark.
This was a particularly brutal attack, and the two seemed to have it out for each other. They both went at it – it wasn’t one-sided. I’d wager that there was more bad blood between the two that hasn’t been reported, but that, of course, as always, is my own speculation – and that only.
I will update my readers as reports come in about the case.
