15 Year Old Boy Stabs Father to Death After Being Disciplined for Excessive Smartphone Use

The boy was developmentally disabled.

The family home where the murder occurred.

When: December 7th, 2020

Where: Krab Yai subdistrict, Ban Pong district, Ratchaburi province

Perpetrators: Mr. A, alias, 15

Victims: Mr. Thosapon, 38

What: Police discovered the body of Mr. Thosapon on December 7th, 2020, in a bloody scene in the kitchen of the man’s family home. His son, Mr. A, alias, 15, held a bloody foot-long knife when authorities arrived. He surrendered without incident, arrested for the murder of his father.

The boy’s 67 year old grandmother told police that she raised the boy since he was young. She reported that the boy was developmentally disabled. The incident took place when the father came home to find Mr. A playing with his smartphone and ignoring his day’s homework. Mr. Thosapon berated the boy, who reached back to grab the knife he had waiting, charged his father, and stabbed him in his left armpit. Mr. Thosapon stumbled to the kitchen, collapsed, and died at the scene. Legal proceedings will be taken up against the boy.

My take: A tragedy for everybody involved. I’m curious to know the mental condition of the boy. It seems like this may have been a factor. How abusive the father was to the boy is another question that is raised, as well. It sounds like the family life of the boy was not very pleasant, having been raised by the grandmother since a young age.
