The mother went to the press to find justice.
When: January 15th, 2021
Where: Sahatsakhan district, Kalasin province
Perpetrator: Unnamed grandfather, 66
Victims: 11 year old girl, deceased
What: On January 15th, 2021, a report of a mother, Mrs. A, 33, whose 11 year old daughter had passed away at home in the middle of the night. She’d suffered medical complications since November due to an ectopic pregnancy, which is where the fertilized egg implants itself outside of the womb in one of the fallopian tubes.
The mother informed reporters that her 11 year old daughter had been raped by her grandfather. She’d taken the daughter to the doctor many times as she’d suffered physical and mental trauma and various medical complications from the pregnancy.
The mother noticed the illness began around late November. The 11 year old had depression and complained that her genitals hurt. The mother said her daughter had spent time at the grandparent’s house, which was in the same village, and played there often. She couldn’t believe that this could happen.
She did report the crime to police, but they did not prosecute the grandfather. The 11 year old’s health had declined severely by December when doctors found the ectopic pregnancy. Since she was of such young age, there were severe complications like nausea and vomiting all the time. She passed away last night in her sleep. The mother wants the grandfather prosecuted.

My take: Often when police have not prosecuted an offender after a complaint, the victims will go to the press to get social coverage and awareness of a story. This often prompts police investigation. This is why I share and write this story.
